February 17, 2012:
Hangout on Air, to discuss:
1. The term “hangout” vs. “quedada” in Spanish. The term “tertulia” was suggested by +Esther Navarro-Hall as a good replacement word for “hangout”. Clara Guelbenzu and Isabel Pieretti-Restrepo liked the word “tertulia” and agreed that it would be the most appropriate for our purposes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tertulia. It is fascinating how the same word has various connotations in Spanish!
2. We agreed on at least one day per week to hold hangouts at a Europe-friendly time. We reached a decision that Sunday night, 9pm Madrid time, will be perfect. It is also perfect for the Americas-3pm NY time!
3. Discussion on education/training for interpreters and translators. Fascinating discussion. We left this as an open topic, for future “tertulias”.
4. The #EPT team will discuss with our fellow professionals in Asia a time better suited for Tokyo, as it is crucial we collaborate in items of interest to #1nt and #xl8 , interpreters and translators.
The regular meeting days and times will be included in the +Google Shared Calendars , here.
We like the “informal hangout” format! But we will, of course, continue the “Journeys” series kicked off successfully by Esther M. Navarro-Hall in her Talk I Have a Story to Share , here.
The Highlights video is here.
