When I retired, I couldn't bear to leave my wonderful Knoll Life office chair. I was delighted to find that The Human Solution offered all the options available for these chairs. At home now I'm still spending many hours at my computer, and the Knoll Life chair is keeping my back happy.
Never feel bogged down again by bad posture with the Knoll Life Chair. With its uniquely designed slim silhouette and flexible mesh back, the act of sitting is made comfortable again. Slender, sleek, and ergonomic to its core, you’ll love the intuitive adjustment and recline features, sans all of the levers included on most office chairs. Sitting just got a whole lot simpler. The Life Chair’s back adjusts with your body, and the chair’s seat depth is adjustable to fit a wide array of users. Durable cloth mesh brings breathability and flexibility closer than ever, giving you an ergonomic seat that’s as comfortable as it is supportive. Add the optional seat and back toppers for even more comfort you can count on. Features Flexible back frame adjusts as you move and ensures stable support Synchronized recline is counterbalanced by the user’s body weight, eliminating the need to adjust the chair’s tension manually Controls adjust conveniently from the seated position Flexing seat pan with waterfall edge provides support without stifling circulation Seat reduces pressure points on legs Wide range of adjustment in the seat slider Optional adjustable lumbar support is made of soft, slow-recovery foam and magnetically attaches to the chair Warranty covers 24/7 multi-shift usage for 10 years on mechanical parts, upholstery and labor is covered for 3 years
I am very satisfied with the support provided by the Knoll Life Chair and the adjustability of it. The one thing that I would change is that there is no seat topper that is included with the basic chair. I assumed that there would be some sort of cushion associated with it and so did not order a seat topper. However, there is no cushion at all and, while comfortable, the seat gets very hard if you are sitting in it for a long time. I would recommend that some sort of cushion be included with the basic chair.
In the Life chair Knoll has a very impressive product. Seating is something which requires lots of design and endless tweaking, but this product definitely does its job. As a result of it I am more comfortable while working and feel better after work, as a result of improved posture. In my case any improvement to my chair would have helped but to jump up to something like the Life was a dramatic improvement.
As stated before, there is a lot of competition when it comes to office seating. Not only does Knoll have many competitors, by they offer a number of different chairs, most notably the ChadwickTM, which is considerably less expensive than the Life. In the world of seating, though, you get what you pay for and though you may find something comfortable and ergonomically sound for less, a chair like the Chadwick (from the designer of Herman Miller’s Aeron chair) lacks the flash and distinction of the Life.
Though at first it is difficult to sort through the Life chair’s near endless options, the process is well documents on Knoll’s website. Pricing out your final product is a bit tougher, and a bit more painful, but it can be done as well. Here is a run through our chair’s options:
The image above looks closely at the fabric used on our Life chair. Knoll has many different fabric options and while ours were very simple, the number of possible textiles is impressive. The choice of more select textiles or leather can have a dramatic effect on the price and feel of the chair. We chose the most basic textile as it looked to be simple, comfortable, and would “breathe” better than leather. Our color is called Beige, though it is a light grey-green. The fabric on the seat (picture on the top) is tightly knit for durability while the back suspension fabric is quite elastic and open to allow air flow.
Because the chair has many joints, some of them aluminum-on-aluminum, I was not surprised when I heard a few creaks. These mainly happened when I was leaning back, particularly when my weight was not completely centered, and when leaning forward. The noises were not bothersome, but considering that the Life is a finely-tuned piece of equipment they did annoy me. After a few weeks of use I noticed that the chair got quieter and quieter. This happened because the lubricants in the joints take time and movement to get properly situated. This is an area which Knoll has put a lot of work into and made much improvement since the first version of this product.
